For shipments to the United Arab Emirates, imports are subject to 5% VAT, with additional customs duties and clearance fees depending on the shipment value. Shipments valued at AED 1,000 or less are charged VAT only, calculated on the customs declared value of the goods. Shipments valued above AED 1,000 are subject to both 5% customs duty (calculated on the customs declared value plus freight and insurance) and a USD $5.45 customs clearance fee, in addition to VAT, which is calculated on the total shipment value including duty. For customs valuation, freight is assessed at USD $75 for shipments under 25 kg or USD $3 per kg for shipments over 25 kg, while insurance is calculated at 1% of the customs declared value plus freight.
