Stackry’s guide to the taxes, duties, and fees involved when shipping from the USA to
Norway
.

Norway applies 25% VAT on shipments, with the process depending on the declared customs value. For shipments with a customs declared value under NOK 3,000, VAT is calculated on the total cost of the goods plus shipping, insurance, consolidation or repackaging, and storage fees, and is collected by Stackry before the shipment is dispatched.
For shipments over NOK 3,000, or mixed-value consignments, VAT is still charged at 25% but is assessed by Norwegian Customs upon arrival and paid through the carrier. In these cases, VAT is calculated on the full import value, including goods, shipping, insurance, and any applicable fees.
Customs duties are generally uncommon but may apply in certain cases (typically around 5.6%–10.7% for categories such as clothing and textiles). In addition, carrier handling fees of approximately NOK 150–300 may be charged.

Import duty in Norway is 0% for most consumer goods like electronics, books, and sports equipment, but clothing and textiles typically face 5.6% to 10.7% duties. Your shipment will also be subject to 25% import VAT on the total value plus any applicable duties, along with carrier handling fees of 150-300 NOK.
Norway has no tax-free threshold for VAT; your shipment is taxed from the first krone at 25%.
The VAT is calculated on the total customs value, which includes your item price, shipping costs, insurance, and any applicable duties.
If your package does not qualify for simplified processing, carriers typically charge between 150 NOK and 300 NOK for customs clearance. This fee is separate from taxes and is paid directly to the delivery courier.
If any single item is valued over 3,000 NOK, the entire package must undergo formal customs clearance rather than simplified processing. This means your shipment will be subject to standard duty and VAT calculations at the border.
