Must Have Outdoor Clothes & Gear

May 24, 2017

What’s better than camping and hiking in the great outdoors? Why have the best gear – of course!

Here’s a few of the top picks for your summer adventures from some of the top shops:

Camping Coffee

Travelaway.me says “If you like your comforts when camping, you’ll absolutely love this compact, portable espresso maker by Wacaco. Billing itself as the ‘smallest, lightest and most versatile handheld espresso machine’, Minipresso uses a semi-automatic piston so you can brew your rich, high quality espresso anywhere. And the best part: it doesn’t need compressed air, N2O cartridges, or electricity, just water and your favorite coffee beans.” Camping coffee made easy.

From Jet.com, Bodum has a brand new Bodum¨ Young Press Coffee Maker 34 oz perfect for the great outdoors. “The Young Press was designed in response to the need of a modern yet functional coffee press that is both durable and stylish enough to be used in a variety of environments. The frame is made of santoprene – a hard rubber like material. The windows are made of clear polycarbonate. Together, these two layers form a protective skin around the glass beaker that helps prevent breakage and assists in keeping the coffee hot, longer. The layers will also help insure that the body of the press remains cool to the touch. These features make the Young Press ideal for home, office, boat, and even camping!

Camping Comforts

Made from a polyester top, sponge layer in the middle, and durable PVC-coated bottom, this waterproof and sand-proof foldable blanket is ideal for camping, picnics, and other outdoor pursuits. In terms of portability, it folds into a bag with handle and weighs 3.6 pounds, which makes it practical and easy to carry around.

For an easy to care for, synthetic sleeping bag you can throw in the wash after your weekend trip  Bestproducts.com recommends the Hagloffs Tarius 23F Sleeping Bag from BackCountry.com – which even includes an internal pocket for a headlamp – very cool indeed.

Hiking Help
According to Backpacker.com, “clothes that fit better last longer.” Like this A5 Rig Back Country Pant from Beyond.com – “The A5 Rig Light Backcountry Pant is designed for active use in warmer weather. The durable four-way stretch nylon shell is extremely breathable and protects you from the wind and rain. Wear the A5 Rig Light Pant BC if you need lightweight durability for active use in warmer climates.”

And nothing is more important when hiking than protecting your feet. Cabela’s.com has your feet covered with their Keen Men’s Voyager Hikers.  “Engineered for optimal stability, traction and support on the trail, these Keen’s Men’s Voyager Mid Hikers keep your feet from overheating when the path gets a bit challenging. Water-resistant leather and breathable mesh in the uppers allow air to circulate through the shoes. For the ladies, the Keen Targhee 2Mid Hikers are not only sturdy and comfortable, but they come in many colors. For the ladies, Sierra Trading Post has a great selection of women’s hikers at up to 50% off retail, including the highly-rated Asolo Tacoma GV Gore-Tex® Waterproof Hiking Boots.

The Best Backpacks

For carrying all that gear, OutdoorGearLab.com researched roughly 65 packs and bought the 11 best for 210 hours of side-by-side tests in the mountains of Patagonia and the Pacific Northwest. Their best overall? Arc’teryx Bora AR 63. “What sets the Bora AR apart from other models that are currently available is its AC² fabric, which made it the most weather resistant in our fleet. The Bora is a great all-around backpacking pack that is packed full of features. It’s one of the best overall packs, which is thanks to its high level of comfort and excellent suspension system. Its downsides are that it’s of average weight and it has an expensive price tag. At $550, it’s $200 more than any other pack we reviewed.” For the more budget friendly option, they recommend the Osprey Volt 60 Pack from Campsaver.com. “The Osprey Volt 60 combines solid comfort and performance with excellent value. The $180 Volt 60, or the identical, but slightly larger $200 Volt 75, scored respectably well in most categories and scored better overall than several much more expensive packs. While the Volt 60 is not feature-heavy, it does have all the key features that backpackers care about the most, like two zipped lid pockets, dual entry water bottle pockets, stretchy beaver-tail pocket and a lower zippered access point (AKA sleeping bag compartment), among other things. The bottom line is that we don’t think you can find a better pack for less money, though the REI Flash 65 comes close.”

Home Sweet Home
For camping enthusiasts, CleverHiker.com’s top pick is the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 Tent from REI.com. The full-featured Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 tent is designed with a high volume hub to maximize strength and increase living space without adding weight.  And for those on a budget, the REI Co-op Passage 2 Tent is high in livability and low in cost, a 3-season tent for two that sets up easily and features two doors, each with its own vestibule, for easy access and ample storage space.

GearJunkie.com says “Tentsile’s tree tents and trampoline hammocks sure do look good in Instagram photos. But if you’re looking for a place to chill on a hot day, mesh is a must. Tentsile timed its latest release just right. With summer right around the corner, the breezy Tentsile T-Mini gets you up off the ground and into cool breezes. A tri-corner mesh hammock, the T-Mini is the tree-camping brand’s lightest hanging option to date. The T-Mini accommodates two people up to a total of 485 lbs. on a 40D polyester mesh floor.
